What is Aspirations?

This program is designed to give young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) the opportunity to discuss their own vocational and social experiences in a small group setting and be guided in ways of how to improve their skills in these areas. Group leaders, familiar with Autism Spectrum Disorders facilitate an atmosphere of acceptance and friendship. Developing self-awareness, social insight and independence are central themes of Aspirations. There is also a research component where pencil and paper measures are completed by the group member before and after the Aspirations program. These allow us to evaluate the program but participation in this research is completely voluntary.

Topic Areas Include:

  • Making Friends
  • Problem Solving
  • Vocational Planning
  • Values and Ethics
  • Teamwork Skills
  • Self-Awareness
  • Understanding Others
  • Success on the Job
  • Independence
  • Responsibility
